"England . So um Will you do it?"
for you? You're asking me to count sheep
Why would I have to do something like that?"
For the past few nights it's been rather hard to sleep. It's not
like you tried to stay up or that you didn't like sleeping. It was
just that you couldn't sleep till the next morning. Tonight when you
saw England, you noticed how nice the sound of his voice was
could help you. So right now, you were asking him straight forward.
You didn't really care for his answer but you wanted his help a lot! He
was just about to walk back into his house a few blocks past yours.
"Well I heard counting sheep helps. I've tried it myself but
it doesn't seem all that effective." You said with a smile,
clasping your hands together.
"Yes, I know counting sheep is something you do when you
can't sleep. What I meant was why do I have to count sheep for you
Suddenly your eyes started to get all watery. You put a hand over
your mouth and blinked your eyes a few times. England didn't sound
In fact he just sounded confused. He looked at your watery eyes.
He was in front of your house along with you. The time was late as well.
Arthur watched as you wiped the small tear that came from your eye.
"Wait! Why are you crying? I wasn't that harsh,
was I? Ah crap, here use my handkerchief!" he said,
rushing to get the item out of his pocket.
He handed the white, clean handkerchief to you. You thanked him and
wiped your tear. You smiled though. You didn't even look sad.
"What's the matter
? Did something happen?"
"I can't sleep that's all", you replied, rubbing your eye a bit.
"You can't sleep, but is it so bad that you have to cry?
Well, if that's the case then-"
"No no no Arthur! I wasn't crying! I was yawning, that's all.
No need to be worried that much", you said with a slight laugh.
"Huh? You were just yawning so your eyes started
England looked at you a bit surprised. Soon his face turned into
one of annoyance.
He crossed his arms and looked away from you a bit and continued.
"You brat. Don't mess with me! I was seriously worried there
Shit. Go on. Let's get you inside and in bed already."
He started walking up to your front door.
"So you'll help me Iggy?"
"Yes. And don't call me that", he replied with a groan.
He opened the door for you and you both walked in. A fine
gentleman he was. He looked dashing in his dark stone washed jeans,
UK shirt and dark jacket. He even wore a light red scarf and a nice,
cool hat. He took it off as he came inside though, like a real gentleman.
He hung his hat and scarf in your closet and followed you to your bedroom.
"W-Wait one moment. Let me change into my pajamas please",
you told him before he could come inside your room.
A blush came across your face.
"Oh yes. Sorry. I'll wait out here then", he said with a smile.
"Okay. Make yourself comfortable."
You closed the door and looked through your closet and drawers to
find some cute night wear. You wanted to impress England with how cute
you could look. Searching through you found your favorite (color) night
gown. You undressed and slipped it on. As a finishing touch, you groomed
your hair and tightened up your room before opening it again.
You looked outside your door for England. He was in
the living room, sitting on the couch waiting for you.
He heard your door open and looked at you.
"You can come in now England", you said with a smile,
cheeks still a bit red.
He looked at your nightgown and then at your face. He thought you looked
rather lovely in that. He wouldn't say it out loud though. It just wasn't
like him to say something like that.
"Alright". He stood up and followed you into your bedroom.
"Go on. Get to bed already! I'll count
" he sighed a bit.
You crawled into bed, looking at the Brit. You clasped onto you
sheets and laid comfortably on your pillow. England pulled up a
chair next to your bed and looked at you a bit concerned.
"It must be pretty hard to be so tired. You know yawning like that,
and not able to sleep
" he drifted off a bit, a sad look in his eye.
You sat up and smiled. "No it's okay.
Thank you for helping me though. It means a lot."
"D-Don't get the wrong idea though! I'm just counting because if you
don't go to sleep, I can't go home. I'm not doing it for you or anything
Yeah right Iggy
You got comfy in your bed once again, a glass of water on your night
table, and a nice night light near the door. England turned off the
lights, but the moon's light was still bright enough that you could see
his gentle face.
"Okay, are you ready? I'm going to start counting."
You nodded your head and he started
Just as u imagined, his voice was simply beautiful. You liked his
accent and the way his voice changed to the number of sheep. You
wished it could go on forever. It was such a nice calming feeling.
If only he didn't speak so fast
You moved around a bit, trying to get even more comfortable.
His method in sheep counting wasn't really helping. You only
slightly felt sleepier.
You said you had trouble sleeping, but you're not even drowsy?...
. I suppose being drowsy is better than not being able to sleep
do you think you can start sleeping now, love?"
"Yeah. I can try. Sorry", you said apologetically.
You went back to trying to make yourself comfy again.
"Oh, okay. When I counted for America before, it didn't work very well,
.hmm, even if you're not a child, my counting can be pretty effective."
You looked at his slightly lonely eyes. You could feel that he still
was living in the past. You wished you could take that pain away from him.
He and America didn't get along the best, but you knew they still got along
You looked up at him and bit sad yourself, wondering what to make about it.
"Ah-! I was just talking to myself. No need to give that face.
Never mind that, I'll just continue counting
He perked up and began counting from ten sheep.
His voice was calmer and nicer than before. It was nice and tender.
You wanted to keep hearing him throughout the night.
Just him being next to you made you happier. He kept counting till
you heard the chiming of small bells go past you.
"Oh, you guys! You came all the way out here?", England spoke happily.
You turned to face him, confused. The chiming
jingled more and Arthur gave a hearty laugh.
"Right now, I'm helping a friend of mine go to sleep.
You guys know people who count sheep too, right?
I guess it works pretty well."
You looked at him puzzled at his sudden behavior and at
the strange sound that was coming from the room.
"England? The bell chiming
what is that..?"
"Hm? Oh, these guys? They're pretty cute, aren't they?
They're all fairies that live with me. I'm a little late in
returning home. They'll come and get me when that happens."
His voiced perked up and the chimes grew close to your face.
He gave a nice laugh and a true smile.
"Haha, the pixie seems to have taken a liking to you.
Since they came all the way over here, go ahead and pet her."
You attempted to pet the fairy with a smile, but nothing was there.
You couldn't feel anything but air. In your head you sighed and
looked at England for some sort of reply or guidance.
He gave another short laugh.
"Why are you petting the air when nothing's there?
Are you half asleep? She's on your left, your left."
You moved your hand calmly to the left till you felt
something warm touch it. You froze a bit and the invisible
object chimed. You could feel the air moving through the flapping
of her wings. You smiled and gave a short giggle. Though you couldn't
you could FEEL that something magical was there.
England smiled at you and then continued talking.
"Oh well, you guys can go home ahead of me. Sorry that you came
all the way here and I can't go with you."
His gaze trailed off to your open window and you looked in his
direction as well. You felt something warm peck your cheek. Maybe
the fairy had given you a goodnight kiss? You smiled at the thought of that.
"Bye, bye! Be careful on your way home~!", Arthur said with a small wave.
"Bye. Hope to see you soon", you added, looking out the window.
The chimes began to dim till they disappeared completely. They were gone.
Arthur looked back at you, with a swell smile.
"Oh sorry. It got kind of noisy there for a bit. Did I wake you up?"
"No it's okay. That was fun~!"
"Oh, okay, good. By the way, what kind of fairies do you have in your house?"
You looked at him with s forced smile. You didn't really know
"Do they sing? How about alchemy? Or start fires,
or call storms, or curse people, or trample things!?"
In his excitement he gave a sigh. Your overwhelmed face
gave him the sense that he was getting carried away.
"Huh, what's wrong? You're making a weird face. Oh sorry,
I got carried away. Shall I continue counting sheep?"
he asked apologetically.
"It's okay England. Go on when you're ready."
we're at twenty
"Yup~!" You snuggled back into your comfy spot.
"Here I go
England counted sheep once again. Only this time there was
His voice was calmer, gentler, happier, and slower.
He took his time and looked at you with a smile. You never seen
him smile so much before.
"Twenty six sheep
. Twenty seven sheep
Twenty eight sheep
You wanted this to continue on forever. It was so calming.
Every number gave you blissful thoughts and made you sink deeper
into dreamland. You could sleep easily now knowing England was by you
and that the pixies and fairies had met and enjoyed your company.
"Twenty nine sheep
." Suddenly he stopped.
Wondering what was wrong you looked at him.
You saw his lonely face once again.
What was he thinking about?
"Arthur did you want to talk?"
sorry I just remembered something from my past.
I've done this before, you see. I was just thinking it's a bit nostalgic
"Meaning what, England?"
"Meaning that this kind of reminds me of
a happier time before
You looked at him with a smile. He sighed and suddenly looked at you.
"Ah, never mind though. It's nothing. Argh, just when
you were about to fall asleep, I got side tracked again.
Okay here's the last group of sheep. Close your eyes
"Okay", you smiled. "And thank you", you murmured.
He smiled back at you calmly
he reminded you of a big brother.
He was always like that to you. You wanted to get to know him better
and to understand him more. Maybe
you wanted this moment to last forever
He began counting from thirty sheep in that beautiful calm voice.
You listened to only the sound of his voice and nothing else. It was
too peaceful. You were in heaven. Your body felt light and free,
your blankets warmer you up nicely, and your soft pillow was becoming
extra fluffy with every word.
"Thirty eight sheep
. Thirty nine sheep
You expected him to stop but this time he kept going. He counted
past forty and onward. It sounded to calm. You were reaching your
limit and felt a few yawns along the way
You could feel your eyes
growing lazier and your body not wanting to move an inch. You were
sleepy for once
"Forty five sheep
Forty six sheep
.Forty seven sheep
Before he could even reach fifty, you were out like a light.
The time was only 10:34 p.m. It was still pretty early.
Arthur was truly amazing
England looked at you and smiled calmly. He heard your light snoring
and knew you were asleep. Victory for the Brit! He got up and carefully
placed the chair back where it was in your room.
"Even though you said you couldn't sleep, you look so peaceful right now.
I should probably head home though. This British Gentleman can't stay in
your bedroom forever, after all." He said in a sweet voice.
"May you be protected by the fae*
